Don't under-estimate this river, there have been many serious injuries on all the main rapids including Split Hair, Judy's Hole, Dunbar Brook, False Tooth, Dragons Tooth and Labrynth. Most of these required rescue by emergency personnel and surgery. Almost all injuries happened to kayakers who did not have a rock solid roll and were injured after doing a wet exit. Don't be next, if you don't have a never failing roll don't paddle this river!

Salmon River, Pulaski, NY Cl II-III
July 3 release = 400 cfs rather than the usual 750 cfs. This 400 cfs release is a good level to take newer paddlers down it for the first time - IF, of course, the drive is reasonable. It is more technical, less pushy, with smaller waves & calmer eddies (Some say there's more to the Salmon at that level than on the Fife Brook section of the Deerfield if you're taking out above the Gap).

It is anticipated that whitewater releases will resume sometime in the future after repairs to the outlet structure have been completed. Whitewater releases from Savage River Dam are normally sponsored by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and Adventure Sports International in cooperation with the Upper Potomac River Commission.
